how To charge the air
•
How do we “charge the air” as photographers to promote feelings and emotions through our photos? It is important to remember that every photographer has a creative touch, niche, and certain techniques/tactics that shine through each photo. Keeping this in mind, we also need to remember that as creatives we deem a scene interesting or appealing in some sense as we choose to photograph it. With all of the content out in the media, it is easy to lose sight of these core values that got you into taking photos in the first place. While it is important to take inspiration, you must not lose sight of what makes you…you! You don’t need to photograph things that other people tell you to, you don’t need to use the equipment and gear that people tell you to, and you don’t need to edit photos the way that people are telling you to, do what looks and feels right to you because, at the end of the day, you should be making pictures that suit you.
I have found that pictures without a clear definition or meaning seem to be the ones that appeal to the most people. This is because as the photographer you are making the conscious decision to leave the interpretation of your work up to the viewer and there is a great sense of power that comes with that. Don’t fall into the traps that our out there telling you about the hottest new gear and the best places, things, and types to photograph. Use your eye it’s yours for a reason, don’t let your vision be persuaded by another, often times the road less traveled will produce better results.
